I painted this scene several years ago, and decided to try it again.  This is a rock formation in Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle.  My husband and I hiked to this spot where I took a photo of the scene.  It's quite a hike--we probably won't be hiking the whole trail again.

I took a photo of this scene on the edge of our campground in Palo Duro Canyon years ago.  The last rays of the sun were lighting up the canyon walls.  The contrast of the warm and cool colors was fun to paint.  I love to paint the colors found in Palo Duro--so many juicy reds and purples!  I had painted a smaller version of this scene years ago.  I like painting the same scene years later.  It enables me to see the progress I've made as a painter.

I spent last week with my best friend, Renee Sheridan, hiking and painting in the Wichita Mountains and Quartz Mountain State Park.  We took lots of great photos which I look forward to painting.  This week I'm teaching an oil painting class and trying to get in some painting as well.  This painting is of a scene in Palo Duro Canyon near Amarillo Texas.  The photo was taken from our campground in the canyon.  A very colorful place!
